Jason Duval

Jason grew up on the margins of the Keys, in the kind of towns where a fast dinghy and a working knowledge of the local marinas mattered more than a diploma. Small jobs led to slightly bigger ones, the way they always do in that world, and by his late teens he was already known to the wrong people for the right reasons — reliable, quiet, good under pressure. A stint in the military interrupted that trajectory, and by most accounts it should have set him straight. Instead it sharpened him: better instincts, better nerves, and a résumé that made him more useful to the people he came back to rather than less. Leonida has a way of pulling people back into orbit, and Jason never really left it behind so much as postponed it. Everything changes when he crosses paths with Lucia. What starts as a shared problem becomes a shared plan, and the two of them fall into the kind of dynamic Rockstar has only hinted at once before in the series — two people who trust each other more than they trust anyone else left standing. It's the first time the mainline series has split its story evenly between two leads, and Jason is written as the calmer half of that pairing, the one who thinks two steps ahead while things are still on fire. His ties reach further than just Lucia. Cal Hampton keeps him looped into Vice City business he'd rather not touch directly, and Brian Heder's boat yard in the Keys gives him a place to disappear to when Leonida gets too hot. None of these are people Jason fully trusts — they're just the ones he has left.
