Grassrivers

Grassrivers is Leonida's wetlands interior, a stretch of swamp and waterway that trades Vice City's density for something a lot quieter and considerably harder to navigate on foot. It's the kind of terrain that rewards knowing the back routes and punishes anyone who doesn't. Outside of a handful of small towns, the region is sparsely populated, and that emptiness is doing a lot of the atmospheric work — long stretches of reeds and slow water instead of skyline, the sense that help is a long way off if something goes wrong out here. It's a deliberate tonal break from the neon of Vice City. Sparse population in a GTA map has historically meant one thing gameplay-wise: fewer witnesses, fewer cops, and more room for things to happen that wouldn't survive city streets. Grassrivers reads like the kind of place a smart character goes when they need to disappear for a while, or when a job requires more privacy than downtown can offer. It also sets up a strong visual and emotional contrast with the rest of the map — after the saturation of Vice City, Grassrivers' muted greens and slow water function almost as a palette cleanser between the louder set pieces elsewhere in Leonida.
